Curriculum Descriptions:
Wilson Fundations
Fundations is a systematic, research-based program, for all levels of readers. Through multi-sensory methods, students will analyze, read, and spell unknown and multisyllabic words. Parents will be asked to implement teacher-suggested review practice on home days to support learning. Reading, spelling, and handwriting are all a part of the Fundations program. Our class will also use readers and worksheets to reinforce Fundations concepts.
Grammar: Growing with Grammar Level 2 (All Students)
Students will learn skills to provide an excellent foundation in grammar and writing skills. Vocabulary, parts of speech, sentence structure, and punctuation that are appropriate for the grade level will be covered.
Singapore Dimensions Math
We will have a fun semester using hands-on manipulatives and activities to learn and grow in mathematics! The Singapore math method is focused on mastery, which is achieved through the intentional sequencing of concepts.
Most chapters follow a Singapore 5-step approach of think-learn-do-activities-workbook:
Handwriting: Zaner Bloser Grade 1 or Grade 2C (optional)
This traditional handwriting program provides step-by-step instruction. First-grade students will focus on manuscript printing and 2nd grade students will learn cursive. Students will focus on proper letter formation, size, shape, and spacing. Fundations provides ample handwriting practice, but additional penmanship work is recommended for students still working on strengthening their printing skills. Parents might choose to have their 2nd-grade student learn cursive. I am happy to check your student’s work and go over any concerns that you might have about their progress. Handwriting work would be completed at home and is not covered during class.
