Welcome to the challenging game of chess!

This class is open to anyone. Don't know how the pieces move? You've played tournaments? This class is for anyone! I focus a lot on concepts and hands on learning that any level can implement, learn, and see improvement!

This class focuses on the complex and chaotic game of chess. From wild endgames, to simple checkmates you will be forced to think critically, use your minds eye, and find your confidence one checkmate at a time! My classes are a mix of lectures and a heavy implementation on hands on work. Because of hands on drills, games, and methods this is often a very social class! Teamwork is heavily implemented as well as friendly rivalry!

Benefits and skills learned in this class:

  • Critical thinking: This is incredibly important in all stages of life, this class will challenge each student and will help creative/critical thinking!

  • Patience through difficulty: Chess is one of the hardest games ever invented, but taking each difficulty as a learning opportunity allows for quicker improvement and increased patience.

  • Fun yet competitive learning environment: This class is an open class where you can compete against your classmates, or even myself the coach! With fun events, competitions, and drills that inspire and encourage improvement with every new technique learned!

  • Mindset: Chess is 99% mental, from using your minds eye, to forming critical thinking method, students are challenged to use their mind as a force to be reckoned with. Chess is a mental war with many traps and barriers to conquer!

  • Teamwork and respect: Chess is one of the most competitive games I've ever played, however, there is no room for ego in my classroom. Working as a team as one learning unit there is no student left behind, respect is a must in this class as we learn to compete with, learn, and have fun, together.

  • Chess Notation: This is implemented often, recording each game played helps me know how to help this class even further and helps students multitask! It also helps students progress to tournaments/competitive play if they would like!

COURSEWORK COMPLETED AT HOME:

My class is a very hands on one, we work fast and efficiently! However, there will still be coursework needed to be completed at home on occasion, and any chess from home will be very beneficial to the implementation of this class. Clubs, online chess, or playing family is heavily encouraged!

(If you're concerned about your kids safety online playing chess please email me! There are many child safe options that I can recommend and walk you through!)

CLASSROOM SUPPLIES:

  • 3-ring binder for homework Please label the binder with your child's name! (This binder can be combined with other classes if needed :)
