WELCOME TO AMERICA’S STORY, 2 FOR GRADES 3-6

COURSE DESCRIPTION (From the Publisher):

America’s Story, Volume 2 teaches upper elementary homeschool students (grades 3-6) the amazing history of the United States of America from the Civil War through the early 1900s. This full-color history curriculum features an engaging narrative, beautiful historic illustrations, photographs, maps, and more to help your student experience the struggle of the fledgling American nation as she strives to resolve conflict, reconstruct after division, expand through the Wild West, and join the world in the Industrial Revolution.

HOME & CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS:

The Classroom Experience: In class, learning is dynamic—featuring videos, simulations, map work, creating big-picture timelines, and annotated illustrations. Students will also collaborate and discuss leading questions that connect historical topics to personal experiences and previously learned material. To reinforce learning and ensure student engagement, students will participate in multiple cumulative reviews through competitive trivia style games and other fun challenges.

The Home Connection: As part of the Upper Elementary Core Series, this year-long course meets once a week and bridges classroom instruction with required weekly assignments. Essential skills—such as note-taking, creating meaningful illustrations, and building big-picture timelines—are introduced in class and reinforced at home through assigned readings and age-appropriate comprehension questions and coursework.

A Mixed-level Classroom: Because the above skills take years to master, I utilize a gentle, introductory approach. Student output will vary naturally based on each student’s unique ability, understanding of the material, learning style, and age, ensuring a supportive and growth-oriented environment for every learner.

CHARTER SCHOOL ELIGIBILITY:

Masterbooks is written from a Christian worldview, so will not be reimbursed by charter schools. However, you will have plenty of great work samples to provide throughout the year.
