WELCOME TO PRIMARY MATH, LEVEL 3 - For students 3th grade and up
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Singapore’s Primary Mathematics (Standards Edition) is a highly effective, parent-led curriculum favored by the homeschooling community. The program uses a proven concrete-to-pictorial-to-abstract approach to ensure students truly master mathematical concepts rather than just memorizing rules. Please note that this course requires active parental involvement for daily supervising and grading. I strongly recommend enrolling in the Math Fact Mastery course as well with Ms. Roam. Most math gaps and confidence busters stem from a lack of math fact mastery.
HOME & CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS:
This course meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays, utilizing a model that balances diligent and consistent home practice with a blend of mastery and discovery-based classroom instruction, practice, and activities.
The Home Connection: Weekly coursework must be completed and corrected on off-campus days. This essential practice and preparation ensure class time remains dedicated to direct instruction, clarifying and exploring questions, and solidifying conceptual understanding through deep dives into the material.
The Classroom Experience: Our time together is dynamic and concept-focused. Every class period includes explicit, teacher-directed instruction that breaks down new skills into clear, understandable components and dives deeply into student questions and misconceptions. Then, to solidify this foundation and build a working knowledge of both new and previous learning, students actively engage in:
Math Talks - Collaborative discussions where students articulate and defend their mathematical reasoning.
Fact Mastery - Engaging drills and activities designed to sharpen mental math agility, speed, and accuracy.
Critical Thinking – Together, they tackle thought-provoking questions and fun challenges pertaining to specific skills.
Interactive Learning - Games and hands-on activities designed to build lasting confidence, strengthen conceptual understanding, and develop a genuine enjoyment of the subject.
