Physical Education and Health Class for Grades 8-12
Class Overview
This integrated PE and Health class is tailored for high school students in grades 8–12. The goal is to combine essential knowledge about lifelong well-being with practical, challenging workouts to build physical strength, endurance, and resilience.
Each 60-minute class is structured for balanced learning and movement:
the first 30 minutes are dedicated to health education where we'll explore key topics related to physical, emotional, social, and mental well-being. Examples include:
nutrition and fueling your body
setting and tracking personal physical goals
the importance of hydration and quality sleep
emotional regulation and stress management techniques
self-awareness
effective communication skills
spiritual health
responsible social media use
These discussions will be interactive, relevant to your life, and designed to empower you with tools for healthier choices now and in the future.
The last 30 minutes is dedicated to a workout that always includes a proper warm-up to prepare your body, a main event with functional movements and intensity to build real-world strength and stamina, and a cool-down to aid recovery and flexibility.
The workout portion is primarily bodyweight-focused, emphasizing strength, endurance, and mobility through exercises such as
push-ups
squats
planks
lunges
burpees
mountain climbers
dynamic core work.
Some days, we'll incorporate equipment such as dumbbells, resistance bands, medicine balls, or wall balls to add variety and progressive challenge while keeping movements functional and applicable to sports, daily life, and overall fitness.
