Curriculum Descriptions:
Wilson Fundations
Fundations is a systematic, research-based program, for all levels of readers. Students will analyze, read, and spell unknown and multisyllabic words through multi-sensory methods. Parents will be asked to implement teacher-suggested review practice on home days to support learning. Reading, spelling, and handwriting are all a part of the Fundations program. Our class will also use readers and worksheets to reinforce Fundations concepts.
Growing with Grammar Level 2 (All Students)
Students will learn skills to provide an excellent foundation in grammar and writing skills. Vocabulary, parts of speech, sentence structure, and punctuation appropriate for the grade level will be covered.
Bite Size Writing and The Instructional Writing Program
These courses are designed to provide a gentle introduction to the writing process with engaging visuals and fun writing prompts.

· Beginning Writing Skills
· Narrative Writing
· Informational Writing

Handwriting: Zaner Bloser Grade 1 or Grade 2C
This traditional handwriting program provides step-by-step instruction. First-grade students will focus on manuscript printing and 2nd grade students will start to learn cursive mid-semester. Students will focus on proper letter formation, size, shape, and spacing.
Reading
Students will use decodable readers that align with our weekly Fundations lessons. We will also strengthen our reading skills by enjoying reading comprehension passages and various stories.
Math with Confidence
Each lesson includes 3 parts:
1. Warm-up: Counting, Memory Work, and Review. Each lesson begins with a short warm-up to practice counting, memory work, and key skills. Warming up like this also helps build your child’s confidence and starts the lesson on a positive note.
2. Hands-on teaching. Next, your child will learn a new concept or skill with hands-on, conversational activities. For example, they might play a math card game, play “Chocolate Shop” to practice adding two-digit numbers, or roll dice to create a bar graph.
3. Workbook. Last, your child will complete 2 short workbook pages. On the front side, they’ll practice the new concept that you taught them in the hands-on activity. On the back, he’ll review previously learned skills. Occasionally, you’ll use the front side of the workbook page during the hands-on teaching part of the lesson.
