Welcome to Baton Twirling!
This class is for beginners as well as students who may have prior experience in baton twirling.
In this year-long class, students will learn the foundations of baton twirling and further develop their baton twirling skills and technique throughout the year, in class and through practicing at home. It is also my goal to have students learn a short routine together and perform it at the end of the year.
Why is it SO GREAT to learn to twirl a baton?
Baton twirling strengthens hand grip, arm, and shoulder strength! This is especially beneficial for helping kids to develop upper body strength and flexibility while doing something they enjoy.
Baton twirling improves agility, balance, rhythm, hand-eye coordination (the ability to synchronize visual perception with precise hand movements), and proprioception (awareness of body position and movement), which can help prepare kids to advance and be successful in practically any other sport or physical activity.
Baton twirling boosts mental focus and confidence by learning to practice, execute, and master complex twirling moves and perform them in front of others.
Baton twirling inspires movement and exercise through learning a unique and impressive new skill!
Baton twirling is a sport that goes well with, and is enhanced by, ballet, gymnastics, and dance. Twirlers who choose to continue on can perform in marching bands in high school or college, and compete in state, regional, or national competitions. Professional twirlers can use their talents to perform with theater or event companies, and more.
What to Wear: Please have your student wear clothing appropriate for physical activity (something that allows for movement, while avoiding dresses or oversized shirts). Please wear tennis shoes and have hair pulled back in a braid or bun (helpful for long hair) or a ponytail.
Homework: Since class will only be held once a week, students are encouraged to practice at home, for at least 20 minutes, 3-4 times per week.
Class Supplies: No supplies needed, baton provided (see below).
Materials Fee: One-time $45 fee per student, for the baton.
***Parents will need to measure the length of their student's arm in order to properly fit a baton. Please email me your student's name, age, and arm length. I will be ordering the batons for students who register for the class.
Instructions for measuring your student's arm length are as follows: Use a tape measure to measure the length from the top of your student's shoulder to the tip of their middle finger. Make sure your student is standing straight up with their arm straight out. The length between these two spots is their ideal baton length.***
Tuition: The cost of this course is $200 per semester and will be paid directly to ETHOS. They will provide you with payment information and schedules. Class is reimbursable / charter friendly.
