WELCOME TO SINGAPORE MATH, LEVEL 5 FOR GRADES 5 & UP!

CLASS DESCRIPTION:

Singapore’s Primary Mathematics, U.S. Edition has proven to be a very popular and successful curriculum for homeschooling families. Although the math books are user friendly and easy to follow, two hours per week is not enough time to cover everything. This is not a student led curriculum; therefore, daily supervising, teaching, and correcting of homework by the parent is required. This is a non-religious course and may qualify for charter school reimbursements. Always check with your charter for their specific rules and regulations about reimbursements.

PLACEMENT TESTS REQUIRED:

To ensure your student is getting a healthy math challenge (not bored or frustrated), it is important they take the correct math course. It is important that you NOT help them solve the problems, however, feel free to clarify any terminology that will help them understand what the question is asking. For example: List the factors of 24. You may need to remind them what a factor is.

The A books in the Singapore Math series is used during the 1st semester, the B books during the 2nd semester. Each placement test covers the material taught in that particular book. Therefore, to ensure you child is ready for Singapore Math 5, they should be able to successfully complete BOTH the 4A AND 4B placement tests.

*Please know that there are various ages and grade levels in each of my Singapore classes. It is important that they take the course that matches their skill level, not their chronological grade level.

Singapore Math 5 Placement Tests: B Be sure your student completes BOTH the 4A & 4B tests. If they are unable to successfully do so, they will likely struggle in Math 5 and should take Math 4 in order to fill critical math gaps. Here are the links: Placement Test 4A AND Placement Test 4B

CLASSROOM & HOMEWORK EXPECTATIONS:

This is a year-long, 2-day per week class (T & Th 1:05pm-2:05pm). Weekly homework will be assigned and it is expected that you spend time each home day working to complete and check all their work before class on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s so we can focus on any trouble spots. During class, we will examine the concepts at hand and fully discuss any questions they may have. We will participate in whole and small group math talks, challenges, and games in order to review and/or gain mastery of various skills and conceptual understanding.
