I have always loved learning. For much of it, I give credit to my aunt who took us to the Oregon coast where we went “treasure hunting,” or coming home in second grade to have a copy of C.S. Lewis’s The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe waiting for me on my bed. As a kid, we also hosted professors and missionaries in our home, who spent time talking with me and sharing their adventures. In the summer, we would take road trips across the US to places like Washington, DC, Gettysburg, and . . . Disney World (does that count?). I wanted to travel, to see the world, and later I was able to spend time in the Dominican Republic, Prague, France, Greece, Italy, and China.

I graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science in General Ministry (Lincoln Christian University), a B.A. in Secondary Ed, English with an ESL minor from Illinois State University, and a Master’s of Arts in English from the University of Illinois at Springfield.

I’ve taught writing, literature, history, and art/architecture at the college level, have worked on consulting projects for Pearson Education, the World Scholar’s Cup, and have tutored students in math, science, history, economics, writing, literature, and test prep (ACT/SAT especially) around the country, and overseas. Some of my students have gone on to Oxford, Baylor, Hillsdale, and Stanford. I’ve also been able to work with clients at Micron, and at Intessa San Paolo in Milan, Italy (Italy’s biggest bank).

Boise has been home since 2013 (ten years this August), and I started an education business full-time in 2015 (and haven’t looked back!) I love doing adventures with my son (swimming, baseball, robotics, YouTube, chess, puzzles, Legos, and just hanging out), love to work out, learn languages, cook, and go on road trips.

Some life verses have been Proverbs 3:5-6: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart . . . “ and Deuteronomy 6: 5-9, the passage that talks about Loving God with our heart/soul/mind/strength, and teaching our children and children’s children about who He is and what He’s done. I’ve taken both these verses to heart and love conversations about Jesus (and with Jesus) with others at all times in all places. I’ve enjoyed that opportunity with the ILA last year, and I’m so excited to work with Ethos Academy, your families, and your students again this year. We are to understand the times . . . and stand in the gap in the time we have, for this generation and for the ones to come.
