Flag Football (Elementary / Middle School)
Class Overview
This Flag Football class is designed to give students the opportunity to learn the game while building confidence, teamwork, and strong character. Throughout the year, players will work on the fundamentals of football including passing, catching, route running, defensive positioning, and game strategy.
Each class will include a combination of skill development, drills, and game play so students can immediately practice what they learn. The goal is not just to understand the game, but to grow as teammates who encourage one another and compete with integrity.
Football is a great way to teach life skills. Players will learn how to communicate, support their teammates, and handle both winning and losing with the right attitude.
Above all, my hope is that students grow not only as athletes, but also in leadership, perseverance, and respect for others.
⸻
Coursework + Practice at Home
At Ethos Academy, we use a hybrid learning model, which means some learning continues at home.
Players may occasionally be encouraged to practice skills at home such as:
• Throwing and catching
• Footwork drills
• Route running
• Basic conditioning
Most weeks this will take 15–30 minutes, and the purpose is simply to help players gain confidence with the ball and improve their coordination.
Practicing outside of class is not required but will greatly help players grow in their skills throughout the season.
⸻
Understanding the Game
Learning football takes time, repetition, and patience. Many of the skills we work on will be introduced in simple ways first and then built on as the season progresses.
Players will focus on:
• Understanding basic offensive and defensive concepts
• Developing good throwing and catching habits
• Learning how to read the field and make smart decisions
• Working together as a team
Some skills will feel easier than others, and that’s completely normal. Improvement comes through practice, encouragement, and a willingness to keep trying.
The goal of this class is not perfection, but steady growth and learning to love the game.
⸻
A Note About Growth Through Sports
Sports provide a unique opportunity for kids to grow in ways that go beyond physical ability. Through competition and teamwork, students learn perseverance, discipline, humility, and leadership.
Mistakes are a normal part of learning athletics. Players will be encouraged to support one another, learn from their mistakes, and keep working hard.
My goal is to create an environment where every student feels encouraged to participate, improve, and have fun.
⸻

⸻
Parent Partnership, Student Expectations & Team Culture
Parent Partnership
Parents play an important role in helping students grow in both athletics and character. Encouragement from home makes a huge difference in a child’s confidence and willingness to keep learning.
Parents are always welcome to reach out with any questions or concerns during the year.
⸻
Player Responsibility
To get the most out of our class time together, players are expected to:
• Listen to instructions during drills and game play
• Show respect to teammates and coaches
• Give their best effort each class
• Encourage one another and play with good sportsmanship
Learning to be coachable and supportive teammates are just as important as learning the game itself.
⸻
Team Culture & Expectations
My goal is to create a fun, energetic, and encouraging environment where students can learn the game of football while building confidence.
Players will be expected to stay focused during instruction and respect both teammates and opponents. Competition is part of sports, but it should always be done with integrity and encouragement.
When players support each other and work hard together, the whole team improves.
