Class Overview

This course offers an in-depth study of Christianity, various cults, occult practices, and other world religions. Through the lens of biblical doctrine and theology, students will examine how these belief systems view God, truth, and spirituality, and how those ideas compare to a biblical worldview.

Students will explore the beliefs and practices of groups and movements that often influence culture and media today, including occult traditions, historical origins modern spiritual movements, and religions that differ from historic Christianity. The class will emphasize recognizing how these belief systems shape cultural ideas about truth, morality, identity, and spirituality.

A key part of this course will be reading and studying the Bible. Students will examine passages from both the Old and New Testaments that address themes such as the nature of God, truth, salvation, and spiritual deception. By engaging directly with Scripture, students will learn how the Bible speaks to many of the questions and beliefs discussed in class and how it provides the foundation for a biblical worldview.

The course will also include an exploration of biblical archaeology, examining historical and archaeological discoveries that support the reliability of the Bible and the historical context of Scripture. (These will differ from year 1)

This course aims to equip students with the knowledge and confidence to thoughtfully evaluate ideas they encounter in culture while strengthening their understanding of the Christian faith.

PARENTS

In this class, I welcome thoughtful and honest questions that teens are often wrestling with.

Students may also bring questions related to cultural issues they encounter in media, school, and society, including topics related to identity, morality, and truth. My goal is to approach these discussions respectfully while helping students evaluate ideas through a biblical worldview.

Please be aware that these types of conversations are a natural part of a worldview course and may arise during class discussion.

Coursework + Coursework at Home:

At Ethos Academy, we offer core classes through a hybrid learning model.

Students will be expected to complete daily Bible reading at home as part of this course. A reading schedule will be provided to help guide them through. Spending time in God’s Word is an essential part of this course, especially as we examine challenging topics such as cults, the occult, and other belief systems. Regular engagement with Scripture will help students build a strong biblical foundation and learn to evaluate ideas and beliefs through the truth of God’s Word.
