Math Facts Mastery

Class Overview

This class is designed to help students build strong fluency with multiplication and division facts from 0–12. When students can quickly and accurately recall their math facts, they gain confidence and are better prepared for more advanced math concepts.

This year I am excited to have a larger classroom space, which allows students to rotate through several learning stations. Rotating activities helps keep practice engaging while reinforcing important skills.

In class, students will work toward three fluency goals for each set of facts:

  • 2-minute mastery (building accuracy)

  • 1-minute mastery (developing speed)

  • 30-second mastery (automatic recall)

With regular practice both in class and at home, students will build a strong math foundation that will support their success in future math learning.

Coursework + Coursework at Home:

At Ethos Academy, we offer core classes through a hybrid learning model, which means students will complete weekly coursework at home in addition to in-class instruction. This work is essential to student success in the course.

Consistent practice at home is essential. Students should practice their math facts for about 10 minutes each day. This short daily practice helps build the repetition needed for true fluency and confidence. Students will also be provided with printed fact sheets for at home practice to help parents track their progress. Two multiplication sheets, and two division.

Parent Partnership, Student Expectations & Classroom Culture

Parent Partnership

Parents play a vital role in encouraging and supporting their students as they develop strong study habits. Your encouragement, structure at home, and positive communication about school make a meaningful difference in your student’s success.

Parents are always welcome to contact me with any questions, concerns, or clarification needed throughout the year.

Student Responsibility

To get the most out of our class time together, students are expected to take ownership of their learning by:

  • comping prepared with a pencil that is easily accessible

  • Follow classroom rules and expectations

  • Practice their math facts at home

  • Listen to and respect any teachers aid or classroom assistant

Classroom Culture & Expectations

I aim to create a fun, engaging and focused learning environment in my classroom. A strong learning environment requires students to be respectful of one another and focused during instruction.

This means that when I am speaking or giving directions, students are expected to listen attentively, avoid side conversations, and stay on task. Social time is valued, but it should not take away from learning time.

By working together to keep our classroom focused, respectful, and encouraging, we create a space where every student can learn, feel supported, and gain confidence in their math abilities!
