OVERVIEW

Welcome to Developing your Voice: Critical Writing for High School!

This class is a research/writing heavy class with the goal of helping students take their writing to a more advanced level. This course aims to develop students' critical thinking and writing skills. Students will learn to analyze, evaluate, and synthesize information from various sources to produce well-reasoned and persuasive arguments. The course will emphasize the writing process, from brainstorming and drafting to revising and editing, and will cover different forms of critical writing, including analytical essays, reviews, and research papers. The course centers around several major writing projects with class activities that are meant to develop a strong writing voice, a broader vocabulary, and a more critical mind.

HOMEWORK:

This class will require students work on their writing projects outside of our once weekly class. Time commitments may vary by week depending on course project or focus. I would estimate thirty minutes for each homeschool day (M,W,F). This class is going to require initiative and independent work.

CLASSROOM SUPPLIES:

Subject folder or binder to store course documents and any homework sheets.

Pencils/Pens

Three by five note cards (for researching)

2-3 composition notebooks

REQUIRED CURRICULUM:

We will be using the Brave Writer Help for High School Curriculum as well as some supplemental resources and articles.

Please go to the link and buy a copy for your student. It is a digital download and you will need to print it off. I am willing to print out and bind your copy so the student has a hard copy to work from in class. Reach out to me by August 20th after you have purchased your digital file and I'll make sure to bring it with me the first day of class.

PAYMENT METHODS & SCHEDULE:

The one hour course tuition is $260/semester plus a $20 material fee/semester.

All class tuition payments are paid directly to Ethos Academy through the Learning Management System upon registration.  Parents will enroll in classes and set up their chosen payment method (either pay in full or monthly) via Bank ACH.  The material fee is collected immediately upfront upon class registration.  The material fee is non-refundable and non-transferable.
