Elective Class

Class is Full

OVERVIEW

Welcome to High School Speech and Debate!

This class is a highly interactive class focusing on the basics of public speaking, types of public speaking, effective conversation, and major debate formats.

In this class you will experience a professional structure borrowed from the globally recognized Toastmasters organization. Students should be prepared to come to class ready to take part in classroom roles that lead, that speak, and that listen to others. This is a project (speech) based class. Students will be graded on class participation and speech/debate performances. We will require students prepare for speeches and debates outside of class, including research, writing, and practicing their speeches. This should be a fun class! If your student is shy or anxious about speaking in public do not fear this class. It is structured to be a supportive/positive atmosphere where student can safely test their ability and develop skills to come out of their shell. The goal of this class is for students to see self-improvement in their ability to communicate, not necessarily meet a given expectation.
