Overview:
Welcome to Algebra II at Ethos Academy!
Algebra II is a more rigorous algebra course that builds on the previous two courses. Besides review and expansion of topics taught in Algebra 1, the course covers advanced factoring, imaginary and complex numbers, conjugate numbers, the binomial theorem, the quadratic formula, motion problems, and other kinds of application problems. Graphing includes extensive practice with conic sections and solving systems of equations visually and algebraically. Vectors are also introduced.
We will be utilizing the Math-U-See Algebra 2 Legacy curriculum for this year-long course.
This is a 2-day per week class. It is expected that your child come both days with their homework completed. There will be time during each class period to go over any questions they may have about the homework. Should they have any questions or concepts they want to discuss further, they should write them onto post-it-notes and insert them into the text on the corresponding page to ensure that it gets addressed in class.
Each week we will complete 1 chapter in the book with each new chapter introduced on Tuesdays. The chapter is broken up into 5 sections designed for students to do 1 section a day. There is a bonus section that can be done for extra credit. On average you should allow 45 minutes to complete the page. I will allow time in class to start to make sure everyone understands and is able to do the work successfully.
By the end of this course, students will be ready for Pre-Calculus.
**** ALL CLASSES ARE YEAR-LONG CLASSES BUT ARE CHARGED PER SEMESTER. STUDENTS ARE AUTOMATICALLY RE-ENROLLED INTO SECOND SEMESTER AND WILL BE CHARGED ACCORDINGLY IF PARENTS DO NOT NOTIFY ME OF UN-ENROLLMENT FOR SECOND SEMESTER PRIOR TO JANUARY 3RD, 2026. ****
This is a year-long course and qualifies for charter school reimbursements.

If you are interested in additional support you can consider getting the online instruction component of the series. We will be reviewing some of them in class but can be helpful at home if your student struggles and feels that they need access for review on the material while at home.
SUPPLIES NEEDED:
Pencils & Erasers
Graph paper Notebook for showing math work and working out equations & solutions
Calculator
Post-It-Notes
A good attitude, ready to learn!
Homework:
I do homework different from other teachers.
Students will be provided the final answers (without the solutions) to the Algebra 2 problem sets at the beginning of each chapter. This enables the student to verify the answer and identify if they worked the solution properly or not before moving on to other problems. If the student cannot find the proper solution to obtain the right answer please mark it with a post it note and bring it to class to discuss.
Students will turn in all completed homework before receiving the test for that chapter. Homework will be evaluated for the solutions they worked for the problems not the final answer and therefore students MUST SHOW WORK on all homework sets to receive credit.
If students completed the honors portion of the problem set they will receive additional points on their final test for the chapter.
