OVERVIEW

Welcome to Conceptual High School Physics!

This class is an introductory High School level course which focuses on engaging the student in higher level concepts of physics. This course covers a wide array of topics, including Newton’s laws of motion, energy, thermodynamics, electromagnetism, waves, optics, and modern physics concepts such as quantum mechanics and relativity. With a clear and structured approach, students will develop critical thinking skills and a solid foundation in scientific principles.

Physics is the merging of science and mathematics. This is not a mathematics course, however, students should be prepared to learn and utilize the introductory formulas and equations presented in the material to understand how physics represents the world we live in. Students will not be required to perform formulas more advanced than an Algebra 1 level. We may explore mathematics more advanced as a class discussion but students will not be graded on those more advanced concepts. If you have completed Pre-Algebra you should be able to complete the math in this course.

As this is a conceptually focused class (not mathematical focus) the course includes a major Lab component and students will get the opportunity to see the concepts we are reading/discussing in class demonstrated in real time.

HOMEWORK:

This class will have a weekly homework assignments which will require approximately 1 hour each homeschool day (M,W,F) a week. Please understand that students work at their own pace and that some students may require more time or less time depending on their pace of work. My goal is not to burry students in a ton of homework, however, physics does require thoughtful exploration with some independent reading/evaluation to really master comprehension.

CLASSROOM SUPPLIES:

Subject folder or binder to store course documents and any homework sheets.

Pencils/Pens

Calculator (as this is not a mathematics course, students will be required to understand how to use equations to obtain the answer, not to compute the arithmetic themselves).

REQUIRED CURRICULUM:

We are utilizing All in One Homeschool Curriculum.

This is a digital curriculum which I will print and bind for the student to receive on the first day of class. The cost of this student workbook is included in the material fee along with the cost of supplies for our Physics Labs and Experiments.

PAYMENT METHODS & SCHEDULE:

This two hour core course tuition is $480/semester plus a $120 material fee/semester.

All class tuition payments are paid directly to Ethos Academy through the Learning Management System upon registration.  Parents will enroll in classes and set up their chosen payment method (either pay in full or monthly) via Bank ACH.  The material fee is collected immediately upfront upon class registration.  The material fee is non-refundable and non-transferable.
