Comparative Worldviews: A Christian Perspective

This course (Thursday 9:00-10:00) offers an in-depth comparative study of Christianity in relation to other prominent worldviews, including Gnosticism, New Age, New Thought, Postmodernism, Mormonism, and Naturalism. Through the lens of Christian doctrine and theology, students will explore these belief systems, focusing on their views of God and how they compare to a biblical worldview. Additionally, the course will incorporate an exploration of biblical archaeology, examining how historical and archaeological findings support the Christian faith, particularly in relation to biblical texts and historical events.

This course encourages students to engage with challenging questions and grapple with the complexities of their own beliefs. Students will critically evaluate their own worldview and the perspectives of others, considering how these worldviews address fundamental questions about existence, morality, suffering, and the nature of truth.

Through discussion, videos, readings, and archaeological study, students will gain a deeper understanding of the biblical worldview while also learning to recognize which worldviews have influenced them. The course will encourage students to reflect on their beliefs, deepen their knowledge of Christianity, and gain insights into how different worldviews shape culture and what we believe about morality and truth.

PARENTS:

In this class, I welcome tough questions teens have. In addition to questions like “How can a loving God send people to hell?”, “why is abortion wrong?” and “How can we know the Bible is accurate or hasn’t been changed?” past experience has led me to expect other questions our teens are facing in today’s world about transgenderism and sexual identity. Recent polling shows that nearly 30% of Gen Z identify as LGBTQ+, and these issues are often at the forefront of questions that arise. Please be aware that these discussions will likely occur before enrolling your student.
