Break the Code Reading Intervention (3-6)

Welcome to Breaking the Code!

Overview:

 This class is for struggling readers grades 3-6th. There is no shame in struggling to read, I myself struggled and I understand the frustration and embarrassment it can bring to older students. This class will be a supportive and encouraging place focusing not only on improving reading and reading comprehension, but also be bringing my love and passion for the written word and the places it can take us. 

This is a phonics focused course. We will be teaching little to no sight words, but will instead be focusing on learning phonograms, multi-letter phonograms, phonics rules and syllables. Focusing on mastering the code to be able to break down words for proficient reading. Listening to books being read aloud is one of the most helpful tools in building a love for the written word, which is why a portion of each class will be dedicated to reading a variety of different stories to the class.  Individual and group reading activities will also be a part of the class, and light homework will be assigned. 

This is a non-religious course and may be eligible for charter reimbursement. Be sure to check with your charter school.

Homework 

10 minutes or reading practice per day is highly recommended.I will be sending out an email weekly to share what phonics rules we went over in class. Some phonics worksheets might also be assigned to be completed at home.
