Language Arts: Fundations Level 1 or 2

First Grade Students: Level 1

Second Grade Students: Level 2

Fundations is a systematic, research-based program, for all levels of readers. Through multi-sensory methods, students will analyze, read, and spell unknown and multisyllabic words. Parents will be asked to implement teacher-suggested review practice on home days to support learning. In addition to Fundations, students will practice reading text from books, passages, leveled readers, etc., to enhance development of comprehension and fluency.

Grammar: Growing with Grammar Level 1 (All Students)
Students will learn grammar and writing skills that will provide a foundation for learning, and will apply these skills as they are acquired.  Vocabulary, parts of speech, sentence structure, and punctuation appropriate for the level will be covered. Please note that Grade 2 students will receive extended instruction in a small group setting.

Handwriting: Zaner Bloser Grade 1 or Grade 2C
This traditional handwriting program provides step by step instruction.  First grade students will focus on manuscript printing and second grade students will learn cursive. Students will focus on proper letter formation, size, shape, and spacing. It is recommended that students practice their penmanship on home days.

Social Studies: My Story 2: My Country, My World (All Students)
My Story and the World Around Me 2: My Country My World brings students on a journey around the world, and lays a foundation for understanding state and federal governments, basic economic principles, and more. It includes basic introductions to history, politics, economics, sociology, and geography, with the ultimate aim of teaching a comprehensive understanding of God's world and the cultures of each country.

Science: Adventures in the Physical World, Masterbooks (All Students)
This course is designed to be interactive with students, as they are given the opportunity to stop and discuss answers to questions in the text. The course explores questions such as: What is energy? How do simple machines work? What is matter? What are the planets like? Why does the earth have seasons? How does the water cycle work? How do mountains form? Students will be able to answer these questions and many more as they investigate their way through God's world around them. Let's Talk Science: Adventures in the Physical World is fun, hands-on, and easy to prepare for. Best of all, it will encourage your student's curiosity! Some text reading will be required on home days.

Bible Study: More Than Words, Level 1 (All Students)
More than Words, Level 1 is designed to help first, second, and third graders cultivate a living faith in God and Christ-like character. More than Words is a beautiful way to teach children to enjoy studying the Bible. Students will interact with Scripture and learn Biblical principles through hymns, art, poetry, and character studies. Colorful pages, engaging activities, and key truth flash cards will make learning about God fun.

****Mathematics Note: Core classes will not cover mathematics this year. Singapore is a more advanced curriculum. So, in order to ensure that every student is working at their appropriate level, we will be offering mathematics as a separate class for third period. You will need to sign your student up in the system, as they will not be automatically enrolled. I will be teaching Singapore Math 1 and students enrolled in Singapore Math 2 will be moved to the Room 4 with Mrs. Ivers by a parent helper. Please note this message from Mrs. Ivers: Students will learn that math is nothing to fear as we break down and simplify the concepts into hands-on, real-life applications that make sense! No more feeling timid or embarrassed about math. It’s like learning to walk… we’ve all mastered it, but did so at our own pace – and THAT’S HOW IT SHOULD BE! Please be sure to register for the class that best meets the specific skills of your child.
